Matrescence is the physical, emotional, hormonal, and social transition that a woman goes through when becoming a mother.
It’s similar to adolescence - powerful, complex, and often overwhelming.
Understanding Matrescence can help normalise what you're feeling and bring clarity, kindness and compassion to your experience of motherhood.
Maternal Wellness counselling is for women who are pregnant, postpartum, or parenting young children and are seeking support.
Whether you’re feeling overwhelmed, anxious, isolated, or simply want a space to reflect on this transition, counselling can be helpful.
It is a non-judgmental space for you to explore your Matrescence - challenges and vulnerabilities.
Counselling sessions are personalised - I interweave counselling with mindfulness and other gentle modalities to support your emotional well-being.
Birth debriefing is a supportive conversation where you have the opportunity to talk through your birth experience - whether it was recent or some time ago.
It’s a space to reflect, make sense of what happened, and process any emotions that may have come up.
Many people find it helpful after a birth that felt overwhelming, unexpected, or traumatic, but it can also be valuable for anyone wanting to feel seen, heard and honoured.
A birth debrief is not about assigning blame - it's about exploring your story with compassion, so you can move forward with greater clarity and emotional wellbeing.
Birth debriefing is available to birthing parents, partners, or both of you together as a couple.
Everyone experiences birth differently, and creating space for each person’s perspective can be deeply healing.
While support from loved ones is incredibly important, counselling provides professional, confidential guidance and support.
As an an experienced social worker and having supported many women through their Matrescence, I offer a safe space for you to explore your vulnerabilities without judgement or expectation.
Yes. Many mothers experience unexpected emotional challenges - even if everything “looks fine” on the outside.
You are not alone, and your feelings are valid.
Counselling offers a space for you to make sense of these emotions without judgment.
You can talk about anything impacting your mental and emotional well-being, for example:
Perinatal anxiety or depression
Birth trauma
Identity and role changes
Feelings of guilt, anger, or resentment
Relationship shifts
Sleep deprivation and overwhelm
Loss of a sense of self
Ambivalence or sadness in motherhood
Grief and loss
Yes, babies are welcome at in-person sessions. I understand how difficult it can be to arrange childcare, and I aim to make this space as accessible and comfortable as possible.
Yes, online sessions are available for those who prefer the comfort and convenience of connecting from home, or for those who are not based in Queenstown NZ.
Online is especially helpful for new mums with limited mobility or unpredictable routines.
Sessions are typically 60 minutes.
Cost per session is based on your package of support - please ask.
Every mother’s journey is unique, so the number of sessions varies from person to person. Some clients find a few sessions are enough to gain clarity or relief, while others benefit from ongoing support over a longer period.
We’ll check in regularly about how things are going and decide together what feels right for you. There’s no pressure or fixed timeline - this is your space, and we’ll move at a pace that honours your needs, comfort, and goals.
I understand that life can be unpredictable, especially while pregnant or with a new baby.
If you need to cancel or reschedule your session, please let me know as soon as possible, so I can offer the space to someone else who might be waiting.
Cancellations made with less than 24 hours notice will incur the full session fee, as that time has been set aside specifically for you.
I appreciate your understanding and commitment to the counselling process.

A Mothers' Circle is an intimate gathering of women to pause, connect and reflect with others walking a similar path.
It’s a gentle, non-judgemental space where you can speak openly about the highs and lows of motherhood, ask questions, and feel a sense of belonging.
Each circle is facilitated by me and may include moments of reflection, discussion, mindfulness, or simple practices to support your emotional wellbeing.
Making sense of motherhood is something we are meant to do together - not in silence and not alone.
Not at all. You are welcome to share as much or as little as feels right for you.
Some people find comfort in speaking about their experience, while others prefer to simply listen - both are absolutely okay.
In any session, whether it’s a counselling appointment, birth debrief, or a Mothers Circle, you will never be pressured to open up before you’re ready.
Your comfort, safety, and choice are always respected.
To ensure everyone feels comfortable, seen, heard and honoured, Maternal Wellness Mothers' Circles are kept small - usually up to 10 women.
This intimate size allows for meaningful conversation and connection.
To create a calm and focused space for everyone, Maternal Wellness Mothers' Circles are designed for mothers to come without their babies. This allows you to fully engage, relax, and connect with others without distraction.
I appreciate this isn’t always easy, although having this dedicated time just for you is a special part of nurturing your wellbeing.
A Mothers' Circle is typically 2 hours - I encourage women to allow themselves at least half an hour post circle before jumping back in to reality.
You can fill out the booking form on the contact page of this website and register your interest for the next Mothers' Circle.
You can also join the Maternal Wellness Newsletter for regular updates - including Mothers' Circle dates.
